MAC has recently came out with a new line with the inspiration being Mexican culture and colors. The popular makeup line has teamed with the fashion Rodarte. There has been recent scrutiny because the line includes name title of various items in the collection that are insensitive to an incident that occurred. It appears that a nail polish by the name of Juarez. It so happens that Juarez is actually the name of a factory that a countless number of women were raped and murdered. MAC was scorned for being so insensitive to the issue. MAC was very quick to issue an apology to the fans and the public for being ignorant to the issue and they also decided to donate a portion of the proceeds to help women in Juarez.
The article did a good job at saving the name of the MAC Cosmetic brand by noting all of the things they were going to do to show that they were sincerely apathetic. I wonder why there was a neglect to research the name titles of the products. MAC is such a well known brand and they should always be current with the issues that relate to the names of their products. The article does not pass much judgment on MAC, but upholds them because they apologized. An apology is not always the solution to fixing a problem. being a strategic brand and always knowing how to sell their lines to the customers is one of their strong points.
Ultimately, I believe that it is the companies responsibility to ensure that they are covered in every aspect when releasing new products. They should always be aware of what the titles of their nail polishes, lip glosses, and blushes mean. All companies are careful to watch their backs and MAC unfortunately was not this time around. Maybe next time they will do the necessary research to ensure that they are not offending fans or other countries. Neglect to come down on the MAC brand in this article shows a one sided point of view that needed to be addressed.
MAC do the research next time.
